About the Disaster Recovery International Foundation

Mission Statement | Preparedness | Response | Recovery | Community Engagement

For many, the rebuilding after a disaster is just as significant as the immediate disaster itself and finding immediate relief after the event can be even more frustrating still. The Disaster Recovery International Foundation was established out of a need to address that concern. Its aim is to help organizations and communities impacted by disaster engage with relief organizations worldwide efficiently and effectively in order to begin the recovery process as soon as possible.

The Disaster Recovery International Foundation (DRI Foundation) was launched as a separate entity of the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International, which has been educating certifying business continuity and disaster recovery professionals since 1988. The Foundation’s goal is to leverage the Institute’s current relationships with U.S. federal, state, and city agencies and world governments -- including worldwide relief agencies -- to empower the more than 10,000 worldwide DRI International certified professionals with a pathway to give back to their communities through volunteer relief and advocacy efforts. What Are Our Goals?

The DRI Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to:

• provide volunteer opportunities for Business Continuity (“BC”), Disaster Recovery (“DR”) and Emergency Management (“EM”) professionals everywhere.

How Will We Achieve Them?

We are focused and engaged in four core areas: preparedness, response, recovery, and community engagement.

Preparedness

Funding: As with all non-profit organizations, in order to drive action, the appropriate level of funding is required. The DRI Foundation solicits public and private institutions, and individual donors, to contribute tax deductible donations. This funding supports education and awareness, research and program development related to volunteerism efforts, and redistribution requirements related to associated programs in the form of services, goods or financial aid.

Collaboration and Planning: Planning during a disaster is not as effective as having the relationships already developed and steps to action already documented—well before a disaster strikes. The DRI Foundation is an organization that recognizes the needs of individuals, businesses and communities in times of crisis, particularly in ensuring that help and relief arrives in a timely fashion. On the ground, our own experts in business continuity and disaster recovery are critical in order to fully engage with established Emergency Management professionals and organizations that have their own areas of knowledge so that we can, jointly and adequately, complement the relief efforts to areas with the most need.

Response

Notification of Need: By driving preparedness activities and developing networks, DRI Foundation will be in a position to act once alerted to a need. That is why we actively seek and partner with relief organizations across the globe to act as an advocate for those communities. Our vast network of Certified Professionals can leverage their relationships to identify and work with local agencies to bring immediate and bridging relief.

Engagement and Action: One benefit of the Foundation lies in having connections across the world to enact the immediate coordination of activities. This unique attribute of interconnectedness is because of our ability to stand on the shoulders of the Disaster Recovery Institute International and their groundbreaking ability to garner accessto all areas of the global business landscape with respect to Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Emergency Management and Crisis Management. Their vast network of vendors and practitioners who are certified in those professions understand all aspects of Emergency Management. By leveraging that network, along with other public and private partnerships developed for the purpose of disaster assistance, the Foundation can provide focused, immediately needed relief to communities hardest hit by a disaster.

Partnership:  Without the necessary engagement from partners, truly recovering and getting back to normal or better will be difficult. Just as the Foundation engages with the relief community to identify the need, there will be continued engagement, long after the immediate crisis has passed, to assist the local community in rebuilding.  Engagement includes providing various points of reference for community resiliency development, and partnerships with local and regional first responders, and certified business continuity volunteers.

Community Engagement

Enhancing and Growing the Industry: The strength of the Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Emergency industry is in the leadership of its practitioners. In order to support and give back to the Industry, the DRI Foundation is committed to providing opportunities to recognize these individuals and organizations through the inclusion of volunteers, certified forums and webinars to support education and awareness in areas of preparedness, response and recovery, we will ensure everyone and every community is prepared.
